History
October 17, 2002 Teresa was born with a VSD & ASD heart defect (holes in her heart in the upper and lower chambers), a liver disease first diagnosed as Allagille's Syndrome (reduced bile flow because of few bile ducts) & two hemi vertebrae in her back, the least of her problems. She turned jaundice at two days old. November 2002 She got dehydrated from her heart defects and failure to thrive. December 16, 2002 There was no other choice but to have her heart repaired. Doctors found out her holes were even bigger than they thought. After both holes were repaired she went home right before Christmas. She recovered well. Her juandice went away and has not returned. Overall, she was healthy until January 27, 2004. January 27, 2004 Teresa was admitted to the hospital for Rotavirus which caused dehydration. She was released on January 31st, 2004. February 18, 2004 Teresa got ascites (fluid in the abdomen caused from lack of protein). She was admitted to the hospital in Peoria, put on Lasix and monitored until the 22nd. February 23, 2004 Teresa went to Children's Hospital in Chicago. Specialists were hopeful the ascites was a one time occurance. April 26, 2004 A check up in Chicago showed the ascites were gone. Blood tests and certain characteristics showed revealed that she had Alpha-1 Antitrysin type ZZ. It was still not certain if she also had Allagille Syndrome. May 15, 2004 Teresa had an eye appointment to see if she had pigmentation behind the eyes to help confirm Allagille Syndrome. It came back negative. June 22, 2004 We visited a specialist in Chicago. Teresa was doing well. August 21, 2004 We went back to the Chicago lab. Teresa's check-up was OK. September 14, 2004 The check-up and lab in Chicago indicated that if everything went well, we wouldn't have to come back for a year. September 28, 2004 Teresa was back in the hospital for gastroenteritis, caused by dehydration. She was released from the hospital on the 30th. October 15, 2004 Teresa's ascites returned after an illness. November 17, 2004 Teresa was not able to urinate all day. She had a liver sonogram. Pediatrics tried unsuccessfully to cath her. A specialist gave her a cath, hoping it would work overnight. Two hernias popped out during the visit from the great amount of ascites she carried. Later that day, after the peds doctor spoke with the specialist, they admitted her to the hospital. November 23, 2004 Teresa was back in Chicago for another check of her ascites. November 30, 2004 Teresa was dehydrated from vomiting due to too much ascites. December 3, 2004 Teresa had a local doctor check-up, while waiting for the next Chicago appointment. December 7, 2004 Teresa had another doctor visit in Chicago and was admitted for ascites, as they were in danger of infection. Had a workup for a transplant. She had three albumin, lasix treatments which took a while to work. Then she had a magnesium drip because her EKG came back abnormal. However, the drip was successful. December 11, 2004 Teresa was released from the hospital. They told us to go home and pack and enjoy the holidays and wait for a call for a liver. In the meantime, they told us to start a benefit for her. We appreciate all your help and prayers. |
